The Gospel of Fine Dressing
This collection draws inspiration from Alvin Ailey, a groundbreaking African American choreographer whose work celebrated Black culture and spirituality. Ailey’s masterpiece Revelations (1960) channeled the memories of his Texas childhood and the theatrical rituals of the Black church. Personal memories of my mother and grandmother dressing for Sunday service, complete with hats and brooches, informed key details. Each piece becomes both a study of dance and a visual essay on Black cultural heritage.
